Artificial Intelligence Future – The Future is Here

Artificial Intelligence Future

The artificial intelligence future will be committed primarily to the progress of technology. Shortly, AI will be able to take over some jobs and make better decisions than humans in various fields. It is a very striking prospect for those who see it as an opportunity to explore opportunities they have never thought of before.

Artificial Intelligence Levels

Strong AI: We can see this level as the most futuristic and closest to science fiction movies. This artificial intelligence attempts to simulate and surpass human beings to achieve self-aware systems capable of solving any problem. It would fully replicate human intelligence to the end of reaching it.

Weak AI: On the other hand, Weak AI is capable of studying and solving defined and bounded reasoning problems. Most of the AI currently used is at this level since it is responsible, as we have mentioned, for solving specific problems. Many times they solve in a better way than a human would. At this level, we find the most common algorithms in machine learning AI (Machine Learning) or deep learning (Deep Learning).

Artificial Intelligence through time

Although it seems like a futuristic and modern concept, rather typical of science fiction movies. AI was formalized as such in 1950, thanks to Alan Turing.

Turing was a British mathematician, logician, computer scientist, cryptographer, and philosopher. And because of the instrument, he invented. The Turing machine (a device that manipulates symbols on a tape according to a table of rules) is considered one of the fathers of computer science and a precursor to modern computing.

In 1956, a group of scientists (John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, and Claude Shannon) met for the Dartmouth Conference at the private Dartmouth College in Hanover, USA. At this event,

A decade later, in 1965, MIT’s Joseph Weizenbaum created ELIZA, the first chatbot. It pretends to trick a human into thinking he is talking to someone else.

Another MIT scientist, Ian Horswill, created the first mobile robot in 1993. He christened her Polly and was able to move at animal-like speeds using machine vision to navigate him.

In the 90s, big technology companies decided to invest heavily in research in the field of AI. Intelligent agents also emerged, entities capable of perceiving the environment, processing perceptions and responding to or acting in the environment rationally, which would later create chatbots or virtual assistants.

One of the critical events in the history of artificial intelligence was undoubtedly the second match played between Deep Blue (an IBM computer) and Gari Kasparov (world chess champion from 1985 to 2000) in 1997, where the computer beat the chess grandmaster.

Artificial Intelligence in the 21st century

During the first decade of the existing century, the ALICE (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity) program won the Loebner Award for Most Humane Chatbot. And it was also during the first decade that TiVo, the first recommendation technology, came along.

Years later, in 2011, large multinationals such as Apple, Google and Microsoft launched mobile recommendation applications on the market.

The future of Artificial Intelligence

The future always produces uncertainty, and many speculations exist in a field as controversial as this. But the Future of Humanity Institute, the interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Oxford, has conducted a study with 352 scientists and researchers who are experts in AI and have made some predictions that seem to be true:

  • By 2024, artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence in translating languages.
  • It believes that by 2026, machines will be able to write text comments better than high school students.
  • Driving a truck from 2027 will be safer for a machine than for a person. The accident rate has reduced significantly.
  • AI in trading will overtake human sellers by 2031.
  • In 2049, machines with artificial intelligence can write best sellers. Can you imagine buying a book written by a robot?
  • Entering the operating room will be safer in 2053 when robots can perform surgeries.
  • And it is even expect that in 2057 they will be able to carry out their scientific research.

And although many predict a significant evolution of AI in the next 40 years due to the acceleration of the development of this technology, the truth is that nobody can guarantee it 100% and that we will have to wait to see how it evolves.

Conclusion

No matter how intelligent future artificial intelligence becomes, including those of a general nature, they will never be equal to human intelligence. Since as we have argued, the mental development that all complex intelligence requires depends on interactions with the environment and these interactions. Interactions depend, in turn, on the body, particularly the perceptual and motor systems.
